Tales of the Fishing Industry
Once, in the small town known as Twinleaf, there was a young fisherman known as Ted. He wasn’t very well known, and most of the older fishermen dumped all of the laborious or boring tasks on him. This being so, it was a fluke that he became the center of a story such as this. Perhaps it was because he was more accepting of three newcomers to the town, and they chose him to assist them in their quest.
You see, for a few weeks, a large fish, dubbed The Leviathan, had been capsizing ships, disturbing the ecosystem in the lake, and generally been disrupting daily life in the town. These three newcomers, adventurers, decided to slay this beast. To do so, they needed to take to the water. The other sailors dismissed it as too dangerous, but Ted was confident. He just grabbed his harpoon gun, got in his skiff, and said “Let’s go!”
So they set out, determined to rid the waters of The Leviathan. After a day and night of sitting out on the water, they got their first experience with it firsthand. There was a quick splash, and then the boat skyrocketed 20 feet into the air. When it landed, the adventurers were quickly back on their feet. One dropped a ball of flame in the beast’s mouth, another dove into the water on it’s back. The battle seemed to be going well, until they faced a bigger problem. Literally.
Suddenly a larger fish jumped up and swallowed the first one whole! This 25 foot long beast was the real Leviathan that had been terrorizing the town! Fortunately, Ted was prepared. He shot a single harpoon deep into The Leviathan‘s throat, allowing the adventurers to climb into it’s mouth. One plunged his sword into the beast’s jaw, making it suffocate on it’s own blood.
So it was that Ted played an instrumental role in helping these adventurers gain the cities trust, which in turn led to their expedition into the Shadow Realm.
